8. Are the residues from the Blue Tower contaminated?
In the first place this depends on the biomass input and whether the biomass contains pollutants. However, organic pollutants are almost completely decomposed in the Blue Tower. The charge of the residues from the gas cleaning process is comparable with the charge through an environmentally sound combustion process. There are no pollutants that were typical for the Blue Tower or specifically caused by it. The question of the pollutant content of the used biomass and that of the residues can have significant influence on the economic efficiency of a waste disposal technology: High costs for the disposal of the residues of the process can be more than received from the gate fees for the input. Thus, projects with charged biomass or waste can be very cost-effective in multiple ways. This is particularly true if an organic pollution of the biomass can be decomposed in the Blue Tower, which usually is the case.
