6. Which residues are generated in the Blue Tower?
In any event, the mineral content of the biomass is left over as a solid residue of the Blue Tower process. Depending on the input material dry additives used for cleaning the product and waste gas can contribute to the solid residues. In case the pyrolysis char is used outside of the Blue Tower, only very little solid residue is obtained from the gas cleaning process steps. The Blue Tower process can be run without liquid effluents if necessary. If the coke arising in the pyrolysis stage may be usable in another way, it can be sold instead of being burned in the Blue Tower. In this case, the process heat needed in the Blue Tower would be produced in a different way e.g. by using a hot flue gas from a different plant next-door. It is important that the heat for the process is available as a hot and inert gas with approx. 1.000 °C in sufficient quantities. The main resdiue from the Blue Tower is ash, which can be used / sold for the fertilizer and construction industry. Depending on the input material, typically no more than 5-10 percent of the original feedstock remains as an ash residue.
