11. Which chemical reactions are running in the Blue Tower?
In the Blue Tower - as in any other gasifier - a great number of chemical reactions are running simultaneously. The most important are:
Pyrolysis as a combination of a huge number of chemical reactions running in parallel
Gasification with vapor (reforming): CmHn + m H2O => (m n/2 +) H2 + m CO
The special feature of the Blue Tower in comparison with other processes is that both steps - pyrolysis and gasification (reforming), run separately and subsequently in two different reaction vessels. In the gasification/reforming vessel, only the pyrolysis gas is processed. Consequently, the gasification/reforming reaction run more quickly and independently of the pressure leading to a product gas with increased hydrogen content.
